Stony Hill Four Corners Association Collects Abundance For Needy

Since 2007 the Stony Hill Four Corners Association has been giving back to the community with their many events and fundraisers. The association is comprised of business owners between exits 8 and 9 in the Stony Hill area of Bethel and the Mount Pleasant Road area in Newtown, down Route 25 into Hawleyville.

Over the years, the Stony Hill/Hawleyville area has come together to create a greater awareness of what the businesses in the area have to offer, while also creating ways for those businesses to give back to the community.

Over the past few months the association has given an abundance of food, toys and monetary donations to various organizations. On Nov. 19 they did their annual Stony Hill Christmas Tree Lighting and food drive for Bethel and Newtown’s food pantries. Madeline Bunt, board member and manager of Union Savings Bank on Route 6 said they collected a record amount of food this year and continue to get donations in her office.

Cub Scouts Pack 156

Cub Scouts and Cub Masters who participated with residents of Bethel Health Care Center in decorating the collection boxes for 2011 Hat and Glove Drive.

Cub Scouts from Pack 156, Bethel, along with Cub Masters, Keith Watson, Tim Ritchie and Joe DiSalvo, spent a fun-filled evening, Tuesday, November 29, with the Residents of Bethel Health Care Center decorating collection boxes for the Cubs’ first annual Hat and Glove Drive which began the day after Thanksgiving.  The Cubs, all Bethel students from Johnson and St. Mary’s Schools, are participating in the drive as their fourth grade Service Project this year.

Collection boxes will be placed with Bethel retailers and everyone is urged to donate worthy items for the drive.  Following collection, residents of Bethel Health Care Center will sort and pair the items for distribution to needy individuals in the community.

Pancake Breakfast 2011

Even though we had to postpone the date because of Storm Alfred and the unprecedented snowfall, we had a great turnout for the Halloween Pancake Breakfast!  Thanks to everyone that joined in the fun! Because of your generosity we were able to raise over $2,500 for the Stony Hill Fire Department’s Ambulance Fund.

Did you have your photo taken with the Stony Hill Fire Dog, Sparky? Check out all photos from the event on our Facebook page!

A special thanks to all the local merchants who donated their products, services and time so that 100% of the proceeds would go directly to the Ambulance Fund!
